Spreading the Light of Opportunity: Professional Orientation on DOST-SEI CBPSME Scholarship Program

The Western Mindanao State University through the Project Director of the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute Capacity Building Program in Science and Mathematics Education (DOST-SEI CBPSME) Scholarship Program conducted a series of professional orientations at Basilan National High School (BNHS), Basilan State College (BSC), and Maluso National High School (MNHS) on April 24, 25, and 26 this year. DOST – SEI CBPSME Project Director, Dr. Mohammad Nur S. Paspasan, together with the project staff and scholars, spearheaded the initiative. The project was undertaken to assist our nation’s teachers in achieving professional growth through the use of existing scholarships, notably the DOST’s CBPSME. The participants of the orientation were school heads, president, vice president for academic affairs, scholarship coordinators, and science and mathematics instructors/teachers of the respective schools.During the orientation, Dr. Paspasan highlighted the rationale and objectives of the program which aims to improve the quality of science and mathematics education in the country and to expedite the establishment of a critical mass of experts in the mentioned fields. The following topics were also covered: eligibility requirements, scholarship privileges, scholarship periods, and selection of awardees. Furthermore, the application process was discussed and the institutions that offer the same program were introduced. Testimonials of several DOST scholars who expressed their gratitude and honor for the scholarship that helped them pursue their graduate course and achieve personal and professional progress were also shown. Participants were also encouraged to ask questions to have a better grasp of the program.

The professional orientation aims to disseminate information about the DOST-SEI CBPSME Scholarship program to a wider audience. By sharing details about the scholarship, its benefits, eligibility criteria, and application process, the orientation intends to empower individuals by providing them with the opportunity to access quality education, pursue scientific and technological careers, and contribute to the country’s development. The DOST-SEI is under the leadership of Director Josette T. Biyo.
